The Chemistry of Organic ChemistryIf you are in the middle of a chemistry class at school, or perhaps you just need to brush up on some things, you may be needing a refresher on organic chemistry. Organic chemistry is simply chemistry in which one works with a matter that was 'made up' of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. The names of the elements came from their function within the chemical compounds, so they are 'related'.Carbon dioxide is made up of carbon and oxygen. These elements are only paired together in certain reactions in chemistry, and not all reactions with carbon dioxide is related to the formation of the elements themselves. Carbon dioxide is an important component of our atmosphere, though we do not find it as often as oxygen. When it comes to molecules, however, these two are cousins and working with them in chemistry is quite difficult.Acid is an element, along with hydrogen and oxygen, that acts to dissolve the other two elements in various chemical compounds. Some ex amples of acids are: sulfuric, hydriodic, and phosphoric. These chemicals can dissolve organic matter, and they can easily flow, since the order for them to do so is known. This is very important when working with reactions in organic chemistry, because one must be certain about the order of events before doing anything, or it will be much harder to make the molecules dance.As well as reacting with acid, the creation of a molecule also takes place in organic chemistry. There are many different types of molecules, and each type reacts differently to certain chemicals, because each one has its own specific reaction with the chemicals. While the more common molecules such as sugars, fats, amino acids, and nucleic acids are readily available to work with, there are many different molecules, each created by a different type of organic matter, that cannot be easily broken down, nor are they easily integrated into a chemical reaction.While one may have an idea of the structure of these mol ecules, sometimes working with organic matter is a little difficult. Organic chemistry usually involves chemicals that contain various amounts of carbon and hydrogen, so the order of events is not always known. Other factors can affect the order that reactions occur in chemistry, so while you may be able to form the proper chemical reactions using certain combinations of elements, sometimes this is not possible, and one needs to understand this.Sometimes in organic chemistry, one has to understand the properties of organic molecules themselves, especially if they are trying to formulate a compound that can be used in various types of chemistry. For example, if one were attempting to come up with a compound that could be used in photochemistry, where one uses light to create different reactions, one would need to understand the properties of the molecules one is working with. Organic chemistry is very complicated, but the process of learning how to do it is a whole lot easier than on e might think.Working with organic chemistry is not something that is easily understood by anyone, no matter what their level of knowledge in chemistry. One has to take an interest in the entire process, and one must also be willing to learn about the different elements that are involved in creating molecules. The most important thing in organic chemistry is that you have to learn about the properties of your chemical compounds. One needs to know what it is made up of, and what is going to happen with that compound.One cannot expect to succeed in anything without learning about chemistry, so get a book, look up the formulas, and do some experimenting! Organic chemistry is extremely hard, but once you get started, it is easy to follow. Try not to get intimidated, and do your best to learn everything that you can, so that you can easily formulate compounds that can benefit you in many different ways.
